An animal welfare organization found an abandoned puppy with a heartfelt message.
The Wisconsin Humane Society found an abandoned dog on the street and rescued her. Oddly enough, they found a bag with a message inside next to the abandoned dog.
The animal was discovered tied to a fire hydrant in Green Bay, USA by the organization’s workers. Someone had carefully packed away the toys of the frightened dog, named Baby Girl, and her owner had even written a note explaining why they had given up his beloved pet.
Rescuing the dog found on the street
It turned out that the cute dog had a very complex and costly medical condition that her owner could no longer afford to pay for. Experts at the Wisconsin Humane Society quickly discovered that Baby Girl had canine diabetes, which means she has elevated blood sugar levels, and that only a special diet, insulin treatment and constant monitoring of her glucose levels could prevent her from getting sick.
According to a spokesperson for the animal welfare charity, it is a very expensive disease to treat, costing hundreds of dollars a month depending on the vet. They say it may have been in the last desperation of her former owner that they reached the point of abandoning their animal friend on the street – it’s indeed important to be able to recognize when you are no longer able to give your pet the care it needs.
That being said, it was certainly not the most humane thing to do; it should not be done in principle, and anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation should try to find a new owner, or as a last resort seek the help of a shelter or animal welfare or veterinary services.
The former owner left a message
The animal welfare workers published a message to the former owner: “First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend. It’s evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life. We see your love in the bag you carefully packed with all of her favorite things. We see your love in the way you secured her leash so she wouldn’t get hit by a car. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she’d be quickly found. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could.”
