Many people choose a light color for the walls of their home, as it makes rooms appear larger and brighter. Although there are many arguments in favor of a white wall, there is nothing more annoying than when small, gray stains appear on a freshly painted surface.
With children, the chance of this increases many times over. If you don’t want to bother with expensive and cumbersome repainting, we will now show you which method can be used to remove stains the most effectively.
Removing stains from the walls
There are many different cleaning products available for cleaning white walls, but for most stains, you can also fight stains with simple tools which you can find at home. Microfiber cloths, sponges, kitchen towels, dish soap, baking soda, vinegar, and various cleaning sprays will all be effective.
Detergent
Plain detergent is perhaps the most obvious choice if you want to clean white walls. This cleaning agent effectively frees the wall from grease stains and fingerprints. Take a damp but not wet tea towel or microfiber towel and dab some of the dish soap on it. To avoid water stains, dry the stain immediately with a clean, dry cloth. If the stain persists, wait five minutes and try again.
Vinegar
Vinegar, as we know, is a brilliantly versatile cleaning agent, it even removes oil from tea towels. Fill a bucket with warm water, add 250 ml of white vinegar. Soak a soft sponge into the mixture and apply to the wall, then dry it.
Baking soda
Baking soda is another superstar when it comes to cleaning. To remove the stains from the wall, you need to make a paste of three parts baking soda and one part water – if you obtain a sticky consistency, the ratio is right.
Spread this paste on the wall, rub it gently, then leave it on for at least ten minutes – the longer the better. Finally, wipe the area clean with a dry microfiber cloth. Baking soda is known for its odor neutralizing properties, and it also helps remove stains due to its mild abrasive properties.
Universal cleaner
Although not indicated on the bottle, various universal spray cleaners are also good for walls. Spray a small amount on a new cleaning cloth and gently rub the stain. Always make sure that you don’t use an old cleaning cloth, otherwise even more grease will end up on the wall. Choose a general cleaner that has a soapy texture – these are best for removing sticky stains such as food or drink.
