The story of a young woman who gave up her career for the sake of her family: “A woman’s place is at home, I’m happier than ever!”

Alexia Delarosa, a 29-year-old mother of two, spoke about her decision to give up her career to live the way women lived in the 50’s, taking care only of her home and her young children.

Nowadays she stays at home, cooks, cleans and looks after her two children, as women traditionally did decades ago. Her husband, on the other hand, goes to work.

Alexia insists that a woman’s place is at home. When telling about the reasons, she recounted that she made this choice because her mother was away from home a lot when she was a child, which she didn’t find beneficial, and she didn’t want to repeat “history” and neglect her children.

“My mom worked and she also enjoyed time outside of our family home with friends. I have always wanted a more traditional model for my family. I loved the idea of a 50’s style family life, where the wife stays home to look after her husband and kids, and the husband goes out to work full time,” she said.

“I had an at-home baking business which I did part-time, but when I fell pregnant with our second son, Arlo, one, I became fully focused on looking after the two boys, Matthew and our home. ‘I’ve always loved homemaking and I was more than happy to take on this role,” she said.

Matthew, the woman’s husband, owns and works at a coffee shop, while Alexia does all the cleaning and child-rearing.

Asked what a day in her life is like, she told, “I wake up between 5:30 am and 6 am to get myself ready before the kids wake up. Once they’re awake, at around 6:30 am, I do breakfast for the three of us and I love to make things from scratch. I then clean up and spend time playing with the boys in the house, we will sometimes take a trip to the coffee shop to see their dad or go to the park depending on their nap times. When I wake them up from their nap, we play around the house, I make dinner, do bath time, read their books and put the boys to bed for 7 pm. Once they’re in bed, I do one last clean through the house so it’s not a wreck when we wake up in the morning.”
