In folk medicine, hot caramel milk has been used to treat upper respiratory complaints, but in cold weather a mug of caramel milk is the perfect treat.
Caramel milk is nothing more than caramelized sugar added to hot milk. If you want to try it, you can easily make it at home, as all you need is granulated sugar and milk, and it’s sure to be free of additives.
Caramel milk is very quick to make. The only thing to watch out for is that the sugar starts to melt relatively slowly but can burn quickly afterwards. Watch the melting sugar closely, and when it turns to a light brown color and becomes liquid, add the milk on immediately and start stirring.
Ingredients for 1 cup
200 ml milk
2 tbsp sugar (white or cane)
Preparation
Sprinkle the sugar into a saucepan and heat over low heat until it is melted and caramelized. Quickly pour in the milk and bring to the boil, stirring continuously.
