Doctor turned father at 83: ‘I will have to live 105 years to see my son graduate’

Who said that an elderly person cannot enjoy life and live his old age without the shadow of negativity and loneliness that today’s society almost forces upon us? Of course, enjoying life is a long way from having children. The case of Alberto Cormillot, an Argentine doctor who became a father at the age of 83, is truly exceptional.

A well-known Argentine doctor, he married a woman 48 years younger than himself and, despite his advanced age, decided to give her the experience of a first child and a new family. It was certainly a personal decision that provoked much public controversy: many sceptics criticized the choice of such a relationship and the birth of a child.

Alberto Cormillot was born on 31 August 1938 in Buenos Aires, and his incredible story proves that it is possible to live a different kind of old age. Of course, he has always been active in a wide range of activities, and in his workplace he had a long career as a nutritionist, which allowed him to treat thousands of patients with various eating disorders.

He is well known in his home country and made headlines in 2019 when he announced he was marrying Estefanía Pasquini, 48 years his junior. Their love became a reality and a few years later, and their desire to have a child together was realized.

Alberto’s young wife’s parents were not at all happy about their union, and were outraged by the idea of a child.

“My mother used to say that a young woman only marries an older man for money. It never occurred to her that I really wanted someone to love me. My father even told me to stop going to their house. It took him more than a year to reconcile with us,” said Alberto’s wife. Fortunately, the families have since accepted each other and now that Alberto and Estefanía are parents to little Emilio, things are even better!

The main criticism of Alberto and Estefanía becoming parents is that he is too old to be a father. Many users have commented that Alberto will be too old to see his son grow up, but both have said that they have already talked about these things.

‘I’m not saying anything that I don’t already know, or that Alberto doesn’t already know, or that we haven’t talked about. I talked to my friends and they said, ‘Yes, it’s going to happen, you’re going to have a baby and one day (Alberto) won’t be there, for natural reasons’. And when he goes, we will all be there to support you,’ the young wife said.

Little Emilio was born on 17 September 2021, in perfect physical condition. Alberto knows he is no longer young, but he still has a lot of energy and love to give to his son.

‘I definitely won’t be there when he turns 30, but I will be by his side in everything as much as I can,’ he said, adding that he has already started leaving Emilio some very special gifts for when he gets older.

‘I’ve activated a new phone so I can send him messages on WhatsApp, and I’ll film all sorts of events for him, send him photos and let him know what I’m doing,’ he said.
