Waldorf salad is the best choice if you want to have a healthy, light lunch or dinner even in winter.
The Waldorf salad was first created in the 19th century by the chef of the Waldorf Hotel. Originally, it consisted only of celery stalks, apples and mayonnaise; later, nuts, raisins and grapes were added, and nowadays we cannot even imagine this delicious salad without the add-ons. Sweet apples and grapes harmonize perfectly with the tangy celery. If you do not have grapes, you can also add raisins to your salad.
Ingredients
- 6 celery stalks
- 2 handfuls of walnut kernels
- 1 apple
- 1 lettuce
- 1 small bunch of grapes
For the sauce
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Salt and pepper
Preparation
Wash the celery stalks, lettuce, and apples thoroughly. Slice the celery and cut the apples into cubes. Line a bowl with lettuce leaves, place the chopped celery stalks and apple pieces on it, then add the grapes or raisins and nuts.
In another bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the sour cream, salt, and pepper and add the lemon juice. Add the dressing to the salad, mix gently, and you can serve immediately.
