It takes time and patience to remove the inside membranes of the oranges, but every drop of this homemade orange jam will make up for the effort.
Although jams are generally associated with sweets and cakes, orange jam is an excellent side dish for roasts and poultry, especially if spiced with cardamom, aniseed and cloves.
You can surprise your family with homemade orange jam, but this delicacy also makes a perfect gourmet gift, especially at Christmas.
The amount in the recipe will be enough for one medium jar of jam.
Homemade orange jam recipe
- 500 g orange flesh (about 1.5 kg of oranges)
- 200 g sugar (or the equivalent amount of sweetener)
- The juice and zest of 1 organic orange juice and the juice of 1/2 lemon
Peel the oranges. This phase is the easiest and fastest if you use a vegetable peeler. You have to make sure to completely remove all the white parts.
Separate the wedges and completely remove the inner skin, adding only the flesh of the oranges into the pot.
Add the orange zest and lemon and the juice of the orange, sugar or sweetener and cook for about 40-45 minutes. If you prefer smooth consistency, puree it with a blender at the end.
